Kate Athing and the Marymount Women’s Lacrosse Team of are the 2018 recipients of our Distinguished County Service Award, presented at Arlington Cares. This team has volunteered with AHC, Inc’s After School Program once a week for the last three years! By returning year after year, the team has gotten to know the students and their families. They have built strong relationships as they support the elementary school students with literacy and their daily homework assignments.

Before this partnership began, many of the AHC students had never even heard of lacrosse. Kate and the team have introduced the students to the sport, brought equipment to the Community Center so the students could play and hosted the students at many of their games! The students love cheering on their buddies.

An AHC Resident Services Coordinator commented, “Because of the Marymount Women’s Lacrosse Team commitment, our students are able to receive a one-on-one tutor to support them with their homework, projects, and even just grabbing a book and reading. I don’t think any of us realized how impactful this relationship would be on our students and the program. It’s not just about the academic piece (which is great!); they are our buddies, and we are their biggest fans!”

Thanks for caring, team!
