National Public Lands Day at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

Join us for our National Public Lands Day (NPLD) volunteer service event on Saturday, September 22, 2018. NPLD is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort on public lands. We will spend the day thinnning water lilies, taking out invasive plants, picking up trash, and performing other park projects.

WHEN: Saturday, September 22nd, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Registration opens at 8:30am, please arrive no later than 8:45am. We will meet up at the maintenance yard within the park.

WHERE: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave Northeast, Washington, DC 20019. By Car: Enter the park at the Anacostia Ave entrance to access the free visitors parking lot. By Metro: Kenilworth is accessible via the Deanwood Metro stop (orange line)

WHAT: Volunteers will work in the ponds removing cut lotus, in the forest removing invasive plants or performing other park projects. The event will run rain or shine—please dress accordingly and plan to work outside. Lunch will be provided (pre-packaged sandwiches and chips)!

BRING WITH YOU: Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and long-sleeved shirts if you plan to work on land, and shorts, t-shirts, if you plan to help in the ponds. You may want to bring an extra set of clothes if you want to work in the ponds. Be prepared to work outside and bring your own water bottle and sunscreen.

OTHER: Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and accompanied by an adult chaperone, parent or guardian. This event is eligible for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.

DONATIONS: Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. We work alongside the National Park Service to protect the park. Our volunteer events are free but we appreciate all donations to help take care of the park. Click here to make a donation.
