Volunteer Arlington joins millions across the country and around the world in celebrating the life and legacy of President George H.W. Bush, founder of Points of Light - the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. As a member of the Points of Light Network, Volunteer Arlington is proud to continue his legacy in our community, bringing to life his enduring belief in each individual's ability to create meaningful change.

Since his first day in office, President Bush devoted special attention to individuals who stepped up to help solve society's toughest challenges, and created the Daily Point of Light Award to lift up their stories and inspire others to act. He ignited a spirit of volunteerism and, in the decades that followed, inspired millions to be points of light in communities across the globe.

"At the heart of volunteerism is caring about others, and Volunteer Arlington is honored to build upon President Bush's enduring example of service and holding those who serve in great esteem", said Lisa Fikes, Executive Director of Volunteer Arlington.

"President George H.W. Bush was a kind, compassionate and humble man; a leader who believed in service for the betterment of society," said Natalye Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. "As he aptly put it, 'any definition of a successful life must include service to others.' The call to serve your country and your fellow man - both of equal value - was a centerpiece of his presidency and his life. Today because of his work, Points of Light and its global network are an enduring part of his legacy."
