A-SPAN Volunteer Heather Pritchett has been teaching jewelry making to A-SPAN clients for about a year and a half. Heather’s class started because she wanted to share her hobby that she enjoyed doing with those in need in the community. Heather became familiar with A-SPAN when she was going through the Leadership Arlington program (Class of 2016) and took a tour of the Homeless Services Center. A-SPAN is always looking for volunteers to lead classes for clients and she reached out to A-SPAN to share her talent. The classes quickly became a huge hit with many clients staying at the Homeless Services Center. Every month clients look forward to spending time with Heather making necklaces, bracelets, and ear rings. For clients, it is a time to take their minds off of the outside world and create something beautiful for them. Clients and staff alike are always inspired and uplifted by Heather’s positive attitude and it’s easy to see why when she talks about her experience volunteering:

“It’s a pleasure to be able to share my love of jewelry making with the residents at A-SPAN! Creativity is such a positive outlet, and many of the men and women at A-SPAN don’t have the luxury of taking time to be creative.  The students wear their pieces proudly and often share that they’re grateful to have had the chance to take their minds off everyday life.  This makes my volunteer experience at A-SPAN so meaningful to me.”

Thank you Heather! Your enthusiasm and hard work makes such a difference in the lives of A-SPAN’s clients and inspires those around you. Interesting in volunteering at A-SPAN? Contact Sarah Hurst at shurst@a-span.org or (703) 228-7815.
