Partner Spotlight: Communities in Schools NOVA

 

 

Community In Schools NOVA is a national nonprofit agency whose mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and acheive in life. Their goal is to ensure that every child graduates from high school, they work towards that goal by connecting stuents to support services, enrichment activities, and community resources to assist them in overcoming obstacles that are getting in the way of acedemic success. CIS NOVA partners with Arlington Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schoosl to provide over 4,000 students with support on an annual basis, and case manage over 250 students with individualized services on an annual bases.

Wakefield High School
 
55 volunteers and 42 organizations met with nearly 400 sophomore students to discuss career and education paths. CIS NOVA recruits all organizations and volunteers based on responses to student career inventories. 

Barcroft Elementary School

Volunteers met with students to read and learn reading skills. Over 80 volunteers provide academic assistance, homework help and tutoring to students in all CIS NOVA partner school.

CIS NOVA partners with Arlington Food Assistance Center to provide over 250 students with weekly groceries across CIS NOVA partner schools. Over 20 volunteers assist with the distribution of groceries on a monthly basis. 

CIS NOVA partners with several community organizations and businesses to provide health screensing and services to students and families.
