The Art of Volunteering in Retirement Seminar
RSVP-Northern Virginia is offering a free seminar titled “The Art of Volunteering in Retirement,” Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at the Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter in Falls Church. RSVP, the region’s largest volunteer network for those 55-years-old or better, provides free personalized support to seniors and retirees who are seeking convenient, social, fun and meaningful service opportunities in and around Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. The new Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter is located at 5914 Seminary Road in Falls Church, VA, 22041, near Arlington.
RSVP offers more than 300 meaningful opportunities that include helping seniors age in place, assisting local food pantries, and teaching financial literacy. RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including the annual Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, that holds several of its events in Arlington.
RSVP takes an innovative and creative approach to personally matching its volunteers with their ideal opportunities, according to Brandi Morris, RSVP’s program manager.
“The art of successful volunteering in retirement is finding an experience that is fun, social, convenient and meaningful,” Morris says. “RSVP specializes in personally helping folks find their niche so they can fully utilize their interests and talents in retirement.”
RSVP volunteers also enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings.
